Metatextual Context in Games
It’s been a while that I’ve listened to podcasts and one thing I heard today while listening to an August 2025 episode of Rebel FM was Arthur Gies talking about Metal Gear Solid Delta - Snake Eater and how compared to Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 - Sons of Liberty Metal Gear Solid Delta’s story did not feel like Hideo Kojima had much to say. That the story felt more like Kojima throwing things out just to find something about the game that he could be excited about. I don’t think there are a lot of games that we can attribute all decisions to a single director, but the early Metal Gear games and perhaps the Death Stranding franchises are those that one could look into it.
